Gettin’ At “Chedda”

Courtesy of some cornballs

I know for a fact that I’m not the only person who is getting tired of seeing all those stupid “Chedda Gets Cheddar” ads that keep popping up all over the net. I can’t front, I ignored it at first but It wasn’t until a colleague of mine told me that he saw it pop up on ESPN’s website that it really started to attract my interest.

Is this for real?

The simple answer is no and allow me to offer a few points as to why I think so.

1. It’s a Google Ad.

Most times than not, Google ads just lead you to some trash site that’s usually a rip-off of some sort. When you see one, think about getting your mortgage cut in half or giving your partner the most exhilarating climax your new 37-inch member could give–thanks to a magic pill (backed by “doctors”).

2. The opening line:

“How I Hustled A $12,000 Check From The Government and got $5,000 a Month From the Man.” You’ve got to be kidding me. Who says “the man” these days? This is classic evidence of some cornball taking the piss out of stereotypical black slang. No one and I mean absolutely no one in the age range of “Chedda” or “Russell” as he calls himself would ever use an old term like that. I’m 30+ and I’ve never used it unless I was trying to be funny. That cornball has seen too many blaxploitation movies.

3. No errors.

Are the dolts who created this ad really trying to convince us that someone this “down” would have everything spelled so perfectly? Has anybody been to MySpace recently? There’s enough spelling and grammatical errors to cause a mass suicide of English teachers across the country.

4. Both links on the page go to suspicious-looking sites.

We’re constantly warned of websites that are set up to steal identities or trick people out of money. Both of these sites look suspect. They each promise free money through some weird software. They claim that if you allow them to charge your credit card for $2.95, you’ll get the software with everything you need to get “free money.” I wouldn’t give those clowns as much as a fake email address.

Just given the fact that these guys are using black stereotypes to cheat people out of money is sickening. Take a look at “Chedda’s Bling Blog” (yes, that’s the name of it) and then some of the questionable testimonials on the linked sites. The testimonials are of people wanting get money to start a business or fix up a home. “Chedda” bought him a new “ride.”

Um, yeah.
